Let’s begin with konjac root, or glucomannan, one of my favourite supplement ingredients. Konjac root is a vegetable derived from the konjac plant, which is native to Asia. It is commonly used as a dietary supplement due to its potential health benefits. Its main component it glucomannan, which is what we’re using it for here.
Glucomannan is a soluble fibre that can swell up to fifty times its starting size in the stomach. Because of this, it should promote weight loss by creating a feeling of fullness and reducing appetite. In combination with a reduced-calorie diet, glucomannan supplementation has been shown to lead to significant weight loss.
In addition to weight loss, konjac root can improve digestive health. The high fibre content of glucomannan aids in regulating bowel movements and preventing constipation. It may also promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
Konjac root has also been associated with potential benefits for those suffering with diabetes. Glucomannan helps regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down the absorption of glucose in the digestive system. This may contribute to better glycaemic control.
All of this tends to suffer during a weight loss plan, where fibre intake will often be the first victim of restricted eating.
Do note that konjac root should be consumed with caution, especially for those with pre-existing digestive conditions. Adequate water intake is necessary when consuming konjac root to prevent potential gastrointestinal discomfort.
White kidney bean extract is included in the formula for its role in blocking carbohydrate uptake. It can reduce the amount of starch that your body absorbs after eating, offering quite a stark and profound difference in the long run.

In fact, a study from 2004 found that those who were overweight lost on average 1.7 kg of body fat over two months while taking white kidney bean extract use. Thermogenesis is the process of creating heat in the body, which in turn requires energy and can aid in burning calories and fat. Capsaicin is believed to activate a certain type of receptor in the body called the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), which is involved in thermogenesis.
By stimulating the TRPV1 receptors, capsaicin can increase the production of a hormone called norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is responsible for increasing the breakdown of fat cells in the body. Therefore, the consumption of cayenne pepper or capsaicin supplements has been studied for its potential to aid in fat burning.
Some studies have suggested that consuming cayenne pepper or capsaicin supplements can lead to increased fat oxidation and overall fat loss.
One study found that participants who consumed a breakfast meal with added capsaicin experienced increased energy expenditure and fat oxidation compared to those who consumed a plain breakfast meal. Another study found that long-term consumption of capsaicin supplements led to a significant reduction in body fat percentage compared to a placebo group.
Additional clinical data show that cayenne pepper can boost your metabolism for a full half hour after consumption and increase the amount of fat burned during a workout.
In a 2007 study looking at men, participants who ingested capsaicin (the main active compound in cayenne pepper) 60 minutes pre-workout experienced a significant elevation in fat burned during lower-intensity cardiovascular training sessions compared to a control group.
Matcha green tea comes next, one of my wife’s favourites (as a drink, not a supplement – it makes for a lovely, creamy drink mixed with frothed oat milk!). It has been extensively studied for its health benefits, including an increase in metabolic rate.
Similar to white kidney bean extract, green tea seems to mitigate starch absorption when you’ve had a carb-heavy meal. Green tea extract should also work to raise adiponectin levels, a hormone that aids the metabolism of glucose and thus enables overall weight loss.
Additionally, green tea supplementation has been shown to improve your overall mood, which can be vital in positive fat loss regimes when restricted eating becomes challenging and your mood begins to dip.
L-theanine should help with your mood, too, as well as your overall mental and cognitive health and wellbeing. It’s an amino acid found in nootropic supplements, and is known for reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, boosting cognition, and enhancing sleep quality.
Prolonged periods of stress and anxiety can trigger weight gain due to increased appetite or comfort eating. L-theanine’s capacity to mitigate the effects of stress can lower appetite, or at least cravings and a need to comfort eat, thus contributing to weight loss.
It’s a very clever, worthwhile addition here.
Vitamin D3 is a unique vitamin that can be obtained from the sun’s UVB rays. Many of us may suffer with a vitamin D deficiency, though, particularly during the short days in winter and in darker, colder climates (I live in Scotland where vitamin D is highly necessary for everyone!).
Studies have shown that those overweight and struggling with obesity who also have a vitamin D deficiency can experience quite profound fat loss when that deficiency is reversed.
For example, a study conducted in 2018 on athletes found that high doses of vitamin D led to a significant drop in body fat within 4 weeks. Furthermore, vitamin D supports lean muscle mass, improves mood, alleviates anxiety and depression symptoms and can increase testosterone levels in men.
These ingredients all more than earn their place. Using Hunter Burn
I have always been a fitness enthusiast, dedicated to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. However, like many others, I often come across that familiar struggle trying to shed those last few stubborn pounds. No matter how hard I push myself at the gym or how disciplined I am with my diet, those last few pounds seemed determined to stick around.
